Youth services: Your safety is our concern

We can help you find a safe and stable place to stay, and help you find your path to a self-determined life.

Youth services

Under the umbrella of Outreach, Shelter, and Housing we have a number of critical services that each young person can access to help youth find their path to a self-determined, fulfilled life.

Case management

Upon entering our program, every young person has access to case managers who help youth identify their strengths and create a plan for exiting homelessness. Case managers are trusted adults and the key link as advocates for treatments or services that will improve a youth’s stability and health.

Physical & mental health care

Youth can receive medical and mental health service referrals. Youth also receive individualized case management to access mental health appointments and addiction recovery groups, as well as to participate in weekly healthy living classes with topics that include: hygiene, body image, nutrition and healthy cooking, suicide awareness, and sexual health. Youth must be engaged in The Place outreach, shelter or housing programs to access these services.

Family & life skills

Life skills support, including healthy living, healthy relationships, sex education and finances. Family reunification assistance is a top priority.

Education

Our program supports youth to re-enroll in school, pursue their GED, or move toward higher education or trade certification

Employment

Youth have the opportunity to learn necessary skills for employment and gather resources to build long term self-sufficiency. Youth can work on their resumes, learn appropriate work environment behavior, and practice interview techniques. Youth must be engaged in The Place outreach, shelter or housing programs to access these services.

Safe place

Youth in crisis can access safe place support by visiting any PPLD location in Colorado Springs, Fountain, Monument and Falcon. Youth can walk into a library and let a staff person know they are in need of a safe place. The library will call The Place and we’ll send a staff or volunteer out to their location to help identify the best step forward. Youth can also text the word “SAFE” to 4HELP (44357). Within seconds, youth will receive a message with the closest Safe Place site and phone number for The Place. For immediate help youth can also reply with “2chat” to text interactively with a trained counselor.

What if...

I don’t know where I would be without the assistance of [The Place] and the people that have walked into my life. It’s a scary thought, wondering how different my life could’ve been.
